Guide to Omni

Add the Omni Extension.

I.

Installing Omni

1. Add to Browser: Install Omni from the Chrome Web Store. Upon installation, you will be redirected to a sign-in page.

2. Create account: Click Sign Up to create an account. You can also sign up or sign in with your Google account. Upon creating an account, you will be directed to the Datasets page. We will learn how to use this page in Section III.

3. Pin Omni to browser: Click on the Extensions button (puzzle icon) in the upper right hand corner of your browser toolbar. Click the pin icon next to the Omni extension to pin Omni to your toolbar. (“Show in toolbar” on Microsoft Edge)

4. Using Omni: Select any text in your browser. Omni will instantly retrieve the most relevant lines from the selected dataset. The dataset selected by default is Library—a dataset curated by our co-founders, containing dozens of books on science, business, philosophy, and more.

5. Toggle Omni: You can open and close Omni by clicking the extension icon. More conveniently, press ⌥ + F (alt + F on Windows) in your browser to toggle Omni on and off.

2. Google Docs: Open any document of your choice in Google Docs.

3. Activate Add-On: Navigate to Add-ons in the top left of the Google Docs menu bar (either in between Tools and Help, or underneath the Extensions dropdown). In the dropdown menu, click Omni.

4. Using Omni: Start typing or highlighting text anywhere in the Google Doc. Omni will instantly display relevant retrievals. You may need to refresh Google Docs to activate the add-on.

III.

Upload a Dataset

1. On the top right hand corner click on the Datasets icon.

2. Or click here to open Manage Datasets.

3. Scroll down until you see Upload a file or folder from your computer.

4. Follow the instructions under Upload a file or folder from your computer.

5. Or copy and paste a website of your choice into the Upload a website section.

6. Or upload your documents/folders from Google Drive by logging into your Google Drive account.

7. Once you have uploaded your documents, folders, or websites, you will be redirected to a Success screen. Your dataset will finish processing in approximately 10-30 minutes; you can check on the status by navigating back to the Datasets page.

Upload Valuable Knowledge

For best results, please upload data that is valuable to you (ideally 10,000+ words), such as your personal writing, favourite books or blogs, important research documents, team documents, and so forth. Note that we never sell or share user data to third parties, and follow industry best-practices to keep your data private and secure. You can read more about our Privacy Policy here.

IV.

Dataset Selection

1. If you want Omni to retrieve different content, you must select another dataset. First, hover your cursor over the dropdown menu at the top of the Omni sidebar.

2. Click any of the other Datasets to switch to it. For instance, click on the blog.samaltman.com item to select Sam Altman's blog dataset.

Multiselect

To select multiple datasets at a time, hover your cursor over the dropdown menu and click Enable Multiselect. Now you can select and retrieve from multiple datasets simultaneously.

V.

Using Omni

1. How to Query: Omni reads the text that you type or highlighting in your browser and submits it as a query in real-time. You can also use the Omni search bar to query.

2. Expanded View: To view the context behind any retrieval, click on the Expand ( ) button in the bottom right corner of the retrieval item card.

Best Practices

For best retrieval results, you want to make sentence level queries. Hiring entire sentences will result in more relevant retrievals in Omni. Also make sure to use meaningful text in your queries. For example, words like "the", "in", or "and" are not semantically meaningful, whereas "artificial intelligence", "economic downturn", or "stoicism" are semantically meaningful.

VI.

Share Your Dataset

1. Manage Datasets: Toggle Omni on by pressing ⌥ + F (alt + F on Windows). Navigate to the Manage Datasets page by clicking on the Datasets ( ) icon in the top right corner of the Omni toolbar.

2. Your Datasets: Scroll down to the Your datasets section. Click on the Copy Link button under the Share column for whichever Dataset you wish to share.

3. Send the link: Send the copied link to anyone you wish to share the dataset with. When they click the link, the dataset will instantly be added to their Omni account, and will be available for them to use.

VII.
